Is your bedroom décor putting you to sleep? And, like, not in a good way? That most definitely means it is time for a change. Change doesn’t necessarily always have to be drastic.
For me, our master bedroom is my sanctuary. The whole point of the bedroom to me is, every time you walk in, your body should automatically go into hibernation mode. And no better way to calm your senses than a soothing neutral themed bedroom. Unless you want things to get real crazy real fast, keep that palette relatively neutral and cohesive. Not that I have anything against colour. But then again everyone’s idea of serenity can be different, so if you want to go the sincereway read on.

Our bed is the one place in the home where I love to curl up with a book. So for us personally a lot of cushions are a prerequisite. And if done right they can look absolutely spectacular. There is just something we find ultra-satisfying and soothing about all-matching bed linens and lots of pillows. The only rule here is to mix and match your textures well to add balance. Mix in the pattern people. A good rule of thumb is that if your bedspread is solid, bring in a patterned blanket and/or pillow and vice versa (i.e. if your duvet is patterned, make sure to have a few solid elements so things don’t look chaotic). And because we get that pattern isn’t for everyone, the same rule applies for texture…make sure to use varied textures even if all in the same color palette.
Having an eye catching nightstand can also provide an instant facelift to your bedroom scene. If you have a chunkier upholstered bed then go for a more delicate looking nightstand and if you have a more delicate bed frame then go for a chunky nightstand. But enough about the nightstand lets also discuss what goes on it. In this case it is an old trunk from a thrift store. Personalizing with photos and adding small details like a vase of flowers (here pampas fronds from @champsfleur ) or your favorite candle also adds a certain kind of charm to the setup. You want the pieces you put on your nightstand to vary in size. This helps the eye move around. Scale and levels go hand in hand. If all your pieces are the same height, you won’t be able to see what you have easily and it’s not going to look interesting Your eye wants variety and experimenting with heights and sizes is the best way to achieve that.
Signature DIY walls are all the rage now. And with good reason. They can be moulded and adapted to suit you, your personality and taste perfectly. Also the best part is they are not permanent. They can be reworked, adjusted or even substituted over time.
Et voila! And it’s a wrap, perfectly imperfect yet oh so cozy in every respect. A neutral bedroom edit#thesincereway.
