As a photographer one thing that I swear by to make most of my lifestyle pictures complete and add a touch of whimsy are old books. They have an innate ability to make everything look more magical.
I am often asked the question if the books I use in my images are the ones I actually use in my photographs. And the answer is NO. Being an avid reader I would never even dream of doing that. Instead I have found local stores in the city that resell pre loved old books by the kilo. And trust me sometimes I find such gems in all that mess. The versatility of this humble prop has been greatly under appreciated.
Books can be stacked together and used to add height to your hero products or stacked vertically to just add the illusion of height in the photograph.
All in all if you are looking for a way to up your social media photo game. Adding books in them aesthetically is the way to go. You can start with one at a time. Try open and closed, stacked and spread or even in your hand. This has been one prop that has never betrayed me.
